What type of foam is fire-resistant?
Date: December 30, 2022
Melamine foam is a typical and common fire-resistant foam, which is flame-retardant, self-extinguishing & can withstand 240 degrees C flame. In addition, there are other common fire-resistant foams on the market, such as polyurethane foam and polystyrene foam. So, what is the difference between these fire-resistant foams in terms of flame retardancy?
The biggest difference between these fire-resistant foams is whether the material itself is flame retardant. Therefore, the fire-resistant foams on the market are roughly divided into two types. One is that the constituent material itself is flame-retardant, and the other is that the constituent material itself is flammable, and the flame-retardant effect is achieved by adding flame retardants.
Melamine fire resistant foam
Obviously, melamine fire-resistant foam belongs to the first type, while polyurethane foam and polystyrene foam belong to the latter.
Polyurethane foam
Fire resistant melamine foam are made from melamine resin that are nonflammable, and this type of material is designed to prevent the spread of fire and will not melt or drip when in close proximity to a flame. At the same time, a black coke layer will form on the surface of the melamine foam and generate inert gas, making the fire self-extinguishing, and the fire rating of melamine foam can reach B1 level.
On the contrary, polyurethane foam and polystyrene foam are made of combustible materials, and they become fire-retardant foams after adding flame retardants.
The above is Enda's brief introduction to the three common fire-retardant foams on the market. Enda as a manufacturer specializing in the production of melamine fire-retardant foam, which has many different types of fire-resistant melamine foam and can help you choose the right one for your application.
